Thanks will do :-).

Unfortunately just learned it's back ordered and I'm trying to get everything lined up/purchased for trip first week in April.

It looks like a Pelican case (or similar) would be the best solution. I did order the larger messenger bag as I need a new laptop bag anyway, but it is not large enough to effectively carry my laptop and the housing. It will be a good fit for carrying my laptop, accessories and my Canon HF S10 :-).

I also have an Aqualung Traveler 400 bag that I normally use for local trips, so I think I am going to throw by BP/W, and some other gear in it and then put the housing on top, then carry that on with my laptop bag.

all ikelite video housings disassemble about the same. You can take off the base without any tools, but the arm assembly you will need a wrench. Once you do that, you are left with some parts that might fit into such a bag, however, you have knobs on the housing body that are a concern with bumping and damage. I have taken mine apart a few times, mostly for cleaning, and it isn't a problem getting it back together at the dive destination as long as the wrench/tools aren't confiscated by TSA! I am also a bit neurotic about losing parts, like all the washers and bolts, so I haven't done it for a trip yet. I may be doing it next month when we go to Cozumel.... we are still trying to figure out how to pack everything we can in our carry-ons!

Robin,

Yep, I tried "breaking it down" as far as it would go (i.e. taking off base, bracket, etc). Unfortunately, as you said, the mounting bolts and knobs still stick out far enough that it makes it hard to fit into cases that aren't sufficiently sized for it.

I'been thinking in a this small 24 QTR. icebox, the housing fits in, and I would need to add some block of polystyrene at the corners to keep the housing from touching the walls.

Project completed !! Now the husing can be transported safely in the trunk or back in the truck bed. Also I can add fresh water in it after the dives.

that's great for local diving, but for airline travel it is a bit more complicated!

There are a couple of good bags on the market for carry-on. If you want to leave it completely assembled, minus the lights, look at one of these:
Amazon.com: Petrol PDR-B3 Cordura Camera Carrier Doctor Style Bag 3 - Open Wide Protection, Blue/Black: Camera & Photo
or
Amazon.com: Petrol PCCB-1-N Compact Camcorder Bag (Petrol Blue and Black) - Small: Camera & Photo

or taken apart:Pelican 1510-with dividers
Amazon.com: Pelican 1510-004-110 Medium Carry-On Case with Padded Dividers: Camera & Photo
I just bought this one to use
