Ike G10 housing with Sealife Slave strobe

Hello everybody-

Just got my new G10 for christmas and am probably going to get the ike housing for it. One of the main reasons im leaning towards the ike housing is because it allows TTL use for ike strobes down the road. However, right now im not ready to drop $650 on the housing and then another $600 on an ike strobe. My question is can i use my old sealife strobe with a fiberoptic cable with the ike housing until im ready to plunge in and get teh ike strobe? Thanks

Hello Divedadepths,

I believe all the Ikelite housings have a different mounting system for flashes than most camera systems. You will have to remove the flash head and find a system to attach the head to their arm. As well if you are using the older, yellow, non digital strobes, you will need to cancel the preflash on the camera to sync it up.

Yes you can use the sealife strobe on anything. All you need to do is put the fiber optic cord so that it can be expose to the flash and then that should work. Also, you might want to get either a flash deflector or one of Inon's black tape to minimize backscatter.

sealife joe- thanks! my question was directed more at getting the strobe to fire, but i hadn't even thought of this but i think i have some ideas...

Well...that all depends on the type of Sealife strobe you are using and if the G10 emits any pre-flashes. If you are using the SL960 and the camera generates a pre-flash, it will not work. However, if you have a SL960D, then you can cancel the pre-flash.

That is correct. If the camera can shut off the pre flash, then any SeaLife flash will do. if not either the older SL960D or the new SL961 Digital Pro Flash will work as they both have the ability to work with up to 4 Pre flashes.

yep i have teh SL960D so i think im good
