Being that I am a mechanical contractor I have to agree with you. Also what is attaching the cat to the end of the fan blade? The pull chains for on-off and speed are on the hub.

Hmmm. Something is fishy about that cat flick.
 
I can solve the "what's attaching the cat" mystery. If you look closely you'll see there is something dark hanging from a string attached to one of the blades, that's what the cat grabs, it looks like a toy mouse.

My guess is since they knew which blade was going to be supporting the cat they could counterbalance the others.

Warning: I'm not an engineer :biggrin: I did see the flying toy though.
