If I find a wreck while Diving ?

I tried posting on canadian wreck preservation forum .
I was diving in south coast Newfoundland last summer after the dive I was asked " Did you see a schooner down there " I told the old Guy we did not, he said we were diving right where it went down.
he told me it was a fishing schooner about 65 ft. burned and sunk in the harbour in early 1950's. in about 45 ft of water.we are going back to dive this year so I found the name but my questions are. If we find it whom do we report it to or do we? what can I expect to see after 60 years? How do I verify the find are pictures ok?
Any help or directing me to the right site would be great

I would just dive the spot until I found some concrete evidence that something was there. If it burned I would imagine that most of the wood is gone. If it's a muddy bottom much of the heavier stuff may be under layers of sediment. As an aid you could take down some kind of metal detection unit to help you located ferrous materials like anchors, anchor chain etc.
