Just a heads-up on non-dive-specific rolling duffels; I bought a very nice Jansport Cargo Hold rolling duffel:

JanSport - Product Detail for 30" CARGO HOLD

Rigid "foot" so it stands up when full, and the "foot" folds down for easy storage. Tub-type back, nice big wheels, lots of compression straps etc. etc.

Seemed like the perfect set-up, except that the wheels and their mounting just aren't up to the load. I can almost hear them groan :) and certainly see them go "knock-kneed" when I roll it around. It's held up so far, but I would suspect the wheels to give out much sooner than dedicated dive luggage, many of which have the wheels supported on both sides with heavy-duty hardware. A couple of flights with this duffel has already bent the axles on both sides - I blame luggage handlers for that though.

hi Scotttyd, on gear bags for travel, my best bet is the nearest army surplus they have the best slections of duffle bags and they are also big and durabble and they can easely fit a full foot, back plate wing and regs. plus they wont cost you much.
or.......... if you have friends here in the phillipines we have even more cheaper bags here just have them shipped to where your at...... oh' half of the fun is looking for it. /gg

the idea of the army surplus bags seems to obvious for me to have thought off. Just surfing the net I found some pretty heavy duty bags for $20-30, I will have to stop by the local surplus shop to see what they have. My only issue is that most of them (like my father's) are top loads, not the best to use for scuba, but I will definately keep looking. I would assume being military that they are pretty heavy duty and will stand up to the abuse, only issue is if I can fold it up well in my regular luggage for the airplane. Or maybe I can just pack clothes in it and keep my gear in regular luggage to protect it more, then when I get to my final location, switch things out.

I use a roller hockey bag. It's huge so fitting stuff in it is no problem. Maybe too huge for it's own good (38" x 18" x 16") but I had to fit freediving fins in it. I put in 2 plastic tupperware to hold my regs and misc. small stuff. I also put in a mesh bag for when I'm at the dive location I plop my hockey bag down in one spot and move around with the mesh bag. And when I travel I put clothes in it and check the whole thing in.

Also it's semi-water resistant (it won't leak so you can put it in the trunk but I left it out in the rain two days ago and my things were damp inside) and let's wet things air out with the small ring holes at the bottom.

Next time I buy a dive bag, I'm going to look for a backpack type. More convenient to backpack around in.

After not having luggage for 5 days my first trip to Bonaire, I put these in a carryon. It is a very soft carryon that will compress or stretch somewhat. And flying DAE Airlines, you only get one carryon:

BC, regulator, mask, bathing suit, skin, shortie, booties, laptop (outside pocket), Sealife camera (strobe has to go in checked), one change of clothes. I have even strapped my fins to outside on occasion. I make it look real lightweight by rolling it with a couple of fingers!
