There is overall too much focus on those things IN PROPORTION TO (note the bold italic caps) environmental issues such as whaling, in my opinion. We should think about ecological problems as well as smaller-scale problems among our own species. We should stop all "wholesale killing" by governments, not just of humans. For me, a whale's life is just as important as a human's life.Bill51:While it’s sad to see the whales being killed I only wish the people outraged by it were half as outraged by the wholesale killing of people by the governments of Sudan, Somalia, Ivory Coast, and a few other prime locations in the world.
Excuse me!!!!!!! :11:Zingtea:There is overall too much focus on those things IN PROPORTION TO (note the bold italic caps) environmental issues such as whaling,
Yup....there's the problem right there......Zingtea:For me, a whale's life is just as important as a human's life.
Wildcard:Aborigines are from Australia but yes the natives here in Alaska, Canada as well as Russia all still hunt whales.
Dont be surprised as its not at all an uncommon attitude just as groups like PETA oppose medical testing on animals no matter how many lives are saved. Ill personally shoot a whale to save one human life but thats not as common a value as many think and Ive been accused of being a specieist many times.Kim:Excuse me!!!!!!! :11:
Never mind your "capitals" - I can't believe I just saw ANYONE measure human lives against whales in this way!!!!! No wonder people die everyday in Darfur and elsewhere.
Talk about screwed up values!!!!
Yup....there's the problem right there......
OK.....there's one starving guy with a gun, a knife, a box of matches, and a pile of wood......and one whaleBill51:Don’t be surprised as it’s not at all an uncommon attitude just as groups like PETA oppose medical testing on animals no matter how many lives are saved. Who are you to decide that? How much do you really know about cetaceans? I'm reeling at your attitude right now. Why is it screwed up to respect another's right to life?Kim:Talk about screwed up values!!!!
There has been cannibalism in cases where people together are starving. You haven't given a good example, because when people are starving they usually become more selfish, and will seize anything remotely edible.Kim:OK.....there's one starving guy with a gun, a knife, a box of matches, and a pile of wood......and one whale
Do I really need to spell it out?
Now I can see why Japan still practices commercial whaling.I can't believe I just saw ANYONE measure human lives against whales in this way!!!!!
I'm a human being. Are you a whale? (then maybe I'd understand it a bit better..)Zingtea:Who are you to decide that? How much do you really know about cetaceans? I'm reeling at your attitude right now. Why is it screwed up to respect another's right to life?
There are plenty of international laws and regulations meant to protect whales. Was it enforcement that you meant? Anyway, if most people cared, we wouldn't be racing towards extinction like we are now. The rate at which we're destroying the ecosystem (destruction of habitats, exctinctions, etc.) doesn't allow time for sufficient repair. That's why I said that we're wiping ourselves out.Kim:If they considered it as you said...."just as important"......don't you think the laws would reflect that?
