I don't mind cutting the hole. Chain saw, rope, dry suit, ice spikes on the bottom of the boots and away we go... Cut a nice large triangle, take the tip off one corner, climb on to sink a corner of the slab and have the rest fo the crew push the slab under the ice. When the time comes to leave, just slide the slab back in place, pour a little water on the seams, marke the corners with branches or evergreen limbs and hope the snowmobilers are smart enough to stay away. (Smart snowmobilers, isn't that an oxymoron?) If they don't stay away, charge them for the recovery!

Having ice slabs or any pieces of it under the ice makes it possible to have a rope entangled:no . It's better to take everything up. Agree about the snowmobilers:D

Who uses rope?

TeddyDiver:
Everyone following the standards and concerned about safety issues?

Who say's it's not safe to NOT be tethered to a rope while ice diving?

It sound like there are a few divers who are interested in the ice divng in the Hoosier land this year.

So, tentatively, let's set up BS as the primary site. If there won't be any ice at BS like last year, we can move up to the Haigh or somewhere else.

In the meantime, I will take with Rick about the special rate for the ice diving ;)
