Dublin, Ireland.
Hi fellow divers!

We are 2 lads from Dublin Ireland and have travelled to the Bahamas (amazing), Spain (useless) and Eygypt (good) so far. We usually travel in November and are looking to plan our 2008 trip.

We are looking at Barbados...or similiar, we want a max one stop (ie through Manchester or London) from Dublin, needs to be an excellent PADI school where we can do our rescue diver course and needs to have a decent night life to help us unwind after school!!

We also like a little luxury!

Anyone got any suggestion. Thanks for the time...

James

Florida Keys. One stop, nice and lots of good instructors.

BTW, My wife just returned from Dublin, she loved it there!

Cheers Dave. Glad to hear your wife enjoyed Dublin!
Can you reccommend a school? We were in a school by the name of Stuarts Cove in the Bahamas and love to get something of the same quality.

tks

One thing about the rescue course is that most of it takes place above or on the surface. Personally its not a course I would want to do while on vacation staring at nice clear water. It is a very fun and rewarding class though.

If you ask over in the Florida forum you will get some great recommendations.

She really did like it there. She wants me to go with her next year and do some diving as well.

thanks for the feedback. Do you know if its possible to do most of the theory through PADI in Dublin and to the diving part in the Caribbean!??

I'm sure of it. Get in contact with the instructor (Caribbean) and he/she will let you know exactly what their requirements and prerequisites are.

I just finished up my Rescue Course with a fantastic instructor, Ham, from Jupiter Dive Center in Florida. We got the video and book ahead of time and did the bookwork at home before practicing the rescues. Then we spent half a day at a shore dive (Blue Heron Bridge), then went back to Jupiter Dive Center to practice rescues from the boat (also enjoyed some great diving). The next day we went out on the boat again, enjoyed diving and practiced rescuing during our surface intervals. It was a fun way to learn such a challanging course. The chapter reviews and test was done at our convenience.

Their web site address is: Jupiter Dive Center, Scuba diving lessons at a PADI 5 Star facility, daily scuba diving trips in Jupiter, Florida. Feel free to email or call them for more information. I've had several instructors for different certifications, and I'll have to say that Ham is the most consciencous instructor and makes sure you know what you're doing before he'll certify you. He's also fun and corrects you in a way that you don't feel like an idiot. Being a retired teacher, he's also skilled at delivering the lessons in a fun and meaningful way.

It might be hard to break it up. Since there is no "certification" type dives. There are Rescue Scenarios based on the course work and from what I understand there is lots of wiggle room on how the class is taught as long as you complete all the skills.

There are 5 knowledge reviews, 10 Skills, and 4 Open water scenarios from what I remember. They are listed in your PADI logbook if you want to look. You can do your EFR first though as that is a separate class.

I suggest you consider Cozumel. Great diving, lots of good instructors, probably direct flights to Cancun with an easy connection to the island, relatively low cost with a broad sprectum of hotels, good food, decent land activities, overall great fun and solid value for the cost.

Check on the flights and other details, and if Coz seems interesting, PM me and I'll give you some specific leads. dF
