I'm a Fish!
Me and my wife despretly want to go diving we live in virginia beach and we only realy know about LDC and dive quarters as local dive shops. The problem is there cheapest dives are 65 per person for a single day. That plus the cost of rental for my wife and air and boat tickets comes out to close to 160 our 200 depending on other stuff like nitrox fills. this is a little more then we can just drop on one day of diving.

We love to dive in florida were there are lots of beach dive which gets rid of 130 dollars of the cost of a day of diving but we dont realy know any beach dives around here.

we want to find some dives we can do with out having to pay the huge boat ticket. If theres anyone else in the area that knows of dives like this we could drive a while or even dive in merky lakes what ever it takes to get wet.

we would also like to meet some other diving couples or anyone seing as our local dive shops dont have clubs any more.

well it a lot to read but let me know if any of you wounderfull people want to meet up and dive on the cheap side.

A quick question, have you dove in any place besides FL or the Carib? If not, I would definitely get some experience in darker colder places before trying to go out on a boat in VA. Nags Head area has some beach dives, but getting in on the NE coast is a lot more challenging then getting in the water in FL. As for lakes, Smith Mountain, Rawlings, and Fantasy Lake are good choices. If you want to dive more, buying your own gear would help.

You may want to consider joining a membership quarry or something along those lines. Look at the PDRA dive quarry.

I have dove the light tower lake rawlin and claytor lake. I I'm not sure if anyone else has dove claytor lake or lake gibs but there deep mud holes so that's normal for me.and I do have all my gear my wife does not.

I am very new to the scene. I just got my basic cert. I am in much of the same situation as you, I dont want to pay a whole lot of money for dive boats yet. Buying new gear costs money. I do know that Lynnhaven Dive Center says there is a spot to dive on 64th street in Virginia Beach. I dont think we will see much more than sand, but it is a shore dive and a way to get wet. At this point I just want to get wet and get more comfortable with my skills. If you want to buddy up, let me know. I am a firefighter so my schedule rocks.

If you want to meet up and go to Lake Rawlings pm me. I work a 24 hour on 3 day off schedule. Somewhat flexible. Im 2.5 hours North of Virginia beach but can travel to a point.

Some beach diving in Nags Head, you can run an internet search; if you are looking for a club check Chesapeake Bay Diving's Barracudas, meets third tuesday of the month at the shop in Portsmouth
