The system is by Backscatter. It is called FLIP 3.1. I have 3 filters 0-20 ft, 20-50 ft and 50+ feet. I have had great colors at all depths in the ocean. It is easy because I use a hand mount and can carry all three filters on the dive and just flip the one I want. The only time I have had bad color is when I forget to flip.

The biggest problem I see on YouTube is camera movement. So many divers strap their GoPros to their wrists or forehead and make the viewer seasick. There is enough movement underwater that can be quite pleasing to watch when the camera remains still. Any camera movement should be slow and steady.

I now use a Hero4 Black after flooding my 3+ at the end of last summer (never was able to diagnose why the 3 flooded). Anyway, my set-up is as follows: Hero4 Black + monitor, dual SOLA 2100 lights, Snake River Prototyping tray with loclite arms, Joby gorilla tripod, Backscatter flip system and filters (magenta for local NE US and red for clear water), Backscatter macromate mini macro lens.

Here are some of my better still shots from the past year. These were all pulled from video footage, showing that decent quality photos are possible while simply shooting video:

Impressive! Are those screen freezes or Gopro stills?

Thanks. All of those images are screen freezes. I never use the GoPro for taking stills, since trying to keep my particular tray/light/tripod rig steady while pressing the shutter button is pretty tough, particularly if wearing thicker gloves here in New England. With 1080p HD footage (I usually set it at 60 fps), I know I can get quality pics from screen freezes if I get quality video footage. I import the clips into Aperture (Apple photo editing program), which has a jpg extraction function.

Here's another example (screen freeze) - New England hands free selfie :)
