Well.. not really, we did get turned around. First dive that I ever forgot my compass, well, not forgot.. just left it home purposely figureing that I'd be following a guide. This was one of those warm fuzzy dives in warm water looking at the pretty fish. First dive goes perfect cept I was maybe 1-2 pounds under-weighted... some swim threws, down to 115ft. great dive. We pick up and move, guide gives a quick brief, says follow the reef and loop back. Two of us had cameras and went off on a tangent photoging a turtle. So we loop back ( we thought ) and keep going.

After awhile I asked the other diver where the boat is .. he doesn't know and niether does the other diver. He surfaces and says 1000 yds the other way . Off we go ... At this point the other diver and me take a reading and head off.

Back at the boat the guide asks if we got lost... I told him "nope not lost, I had plenty of air and I knew you were on the surface somewhere" I did think for a few minutes that I was gonna have to use my new sausage:D

The operator was "Off The Wall" in GC. Great OP, had a blast

This sounds a little like my trip to Key Largo last week. Luckily we were shallow enough that we could make frequent "boat checks". I heard one of the guides on board (didnt dive with him) say he had to make 4 boat checks on one of the dives

Oops :D. That "Peek of shame" is the worst. Good job making your buddy do it :rofl3:. Glad it all ended well. I think it is safe to say we have all had to do that once or more in our SCUBA life.

Also euphemistically known as "sunshine navigation." (There's a PADI specialty course devoted to it).
