Axua:Anybody had their camera flooded? What is the possibility of it being repaired? I flooded by Nikon Coolpix yesterday on my 3rd dive. Im about to bring it to Nikon today hopefully to have it checked.
Now I'm thinking maybe I should just buy one of those sea&sea cameras that are built for underwater use straight from the factory. I have seen to many camera's flood (especially Olympus housings!) and now I have experienced first hand.
So sorry to hear Axua!!
That really sucks, I have some camera issues of my own, not related to flooding however.
Don't let this stop you from pursuing your love and interest in underwater photography.
Re your point about housings built by manufacturers who specialise in u/w photography.
Generally I would say that they are manufactured to a higher quality, insofar as the oring design, quality of the housing materials, features, ergonomics et cetera.
But having a housing like this won't minimise the risk of flooding, the single #1 cause of floodings is user error...
Of course it doesn't help that user error can be something as simple as a grain of sand of strand of hair on the oring .
My point is that perhaps these housings are better built and afford you more options in terms of addons and upgrades but it won't guarantee that a flood will never happen.
Anyway just my 2 cents there, see that you have a coolpix 4300, small world dove with someone who has that camera recently.
You should perhaps look into getting flood insurance because as others who have much more experience than I have noted it's not a matter of if but when.
Oooof, cruel world it is :14:.
BTW, believe it or not i've accepted the chance that if I dive with my camera often enough it will flood, I am meticulous and somewhat anal when it comes to preparing my housing...
But to err is human.... and I am human so it will happen .
Also do a search in the u/w photography forum on preparing housings, Alcina has a very good tip in there about using those makeup wedges to remove hair and lint from the oring.
Tissue sucks in that matter, also don't put too much lube on the oring, the grease only serves to help the oring conform to the groove..
Too much is as bad as too little.
Whatever will be, will be... sometimes you can only do so much and things still go wrong..
So if it floods it floods!
