I live in Birmingham Alabama, I am always looking for new and unique sites to dives, If you have any Dive Sites in or around Alabama please let me know. Thanks

I'm sure you know of the quarry in Pelham... correct?

There is another quarry in Moulton and one in Madison(near Huntsville) that just shut down but will probably reopen.

There are a few shore dives in Gulf Shores, Whiskey Wreck, a few other wrecks that I have heard of but haven't found, Alabama Point Jetties, ect. Then, there's the entire Gulf below it :D

Probably just as far as Gulf Shores are the springs in the FL panhandle. Alot of great clear, cool springs! :D

Well. Matt mentioned these, but I thought I'd add in with URL's to their websites.

Bluewater (Pelham) - http://www.divealabama.com
DiveLand (Glencoe) - http://www.headsouth.com/diveland/
Madison Aquatic Park - closed, but should re-open under new dive operator
hopefully by spring. - this URL still has some info http://www.rockdivers.com

You've also got Marthas Quarry near Nashville http://www.marthasquarry.com
and the Florida Springs (Morrison and Vortex) just across the state line.

Any more details on the Gulf SHores stuff? Links to more information, maybe, or specific directions to the shore dive locations? I'm interested in that, too. Is Whiskey Wreck a shore dive, by any chance?

Cheers!

Alabama Point Jetties...

Exit 44 off of I-10 and head South until you hit the beach(Hwy182), go east and pull into the parking lot right before you go over the Perdido Pass bridge in Orange Beach. Gear up and have a nice long sweaty walk to the jetties. Only dive the inside of the jetties during high slack tide for best visibility and least amount of current. You can usually get away with diving the outside of the jetties anytime, but visibility and depth will be limited.

Whiskey Wreck

Take Exit 44 off of I-10 and head South until you hit beach, then take a right(west). Go about a half a mile and park in the public beach access next door to Bahama Bob's Cafe(parking lot is on the rightside of the building). Gear up, align yourself with the Bahama Bob's sign on the roof and swim, wade(?) 100-150 meters and hope you hit the wreck. The last time I dove it, before Katrina, there was only 6" of relief. It gets covered and uncovered over time, dunno if its completely covered at the moment, more uncovered than before Katrina, or just the same. I'm hoping to dive tomorrow evening to find out though.

Pull in like you are going to the condo on the west side of the jetty. Turn left onto a small city street next to the condo's garage. Look down at the water and you will see a small beach next to the start of the jetty's rubble. There is a demolished building on your left where you can park. It is an easy walk and gear houl down to the water and the start of the jetties.
