Hydrophobic Coatings

I see the word "hydrophobic" showing up more and more often recently.
Am I missing something here? Is this something I should know about.
As I understand it 'hydrophobic' is Greek for 'afraid of water'.

Just curious.

Over the years, my ears have perked up at news of a technology that might make for an antifog mask.
