Hi all,

I have an Oceanic Hydro 35 housing and am wondering which camera it is for. I've used it with a Nikon F2 but it's been a challenge to get the controls lines up properly,

I've heard they were also made for Canon cameras, so I'm wondering if there is any way to tell which camera it was designed for. Anyone know?

Thanks in advance,
Derek

I have a Hydro 35 for a Nikon F2 that I bought in the late 1970's. The only other camera model Oceanic made them for was the Canon F1. If it don't fit a Nikon, then it was made for a Canon, and vice versa. It's the same housing, just a slightly modified tray position and thru-hull fittings on the top acrylic for shutter speed, film advance, etc... Might be a different size focus ring control too . My 2psi. M

I’m a Canon user, and so i have to ask Scuba Lawyer, which Canon F-1? It’s probably the older F-1, but Canon came out with the F-1N (New) and also the New F-1. Each had somewhat different controls. Also, each of these F-1 cameras had different Action Finders, which allowed the diver to easily see the entire field of view through both the housing and mask. You need to figure out which it is for in order to order the correct camera for this housing.

Never having ever even held a Canon F1 I can't speak to which model fit the Hydro 35. Mine held the Nikon F2 Photomic with its action finder but I believe the position of the controls were pretty consistent between the earlier F2 and F2 Photomic. My 2psi.😎

Oceanic Hydro 35 only was made back when the original Canon F-1 and Action Finder was around. I owned one with an Ikelite housing and the Action Finder was a great benefit for composing your shots.

Famous underwater photographer Chris Newbert shot many of his photos in the first large coffee table underwater photo book "Within a Rainbowed Sea" using Canon F1 cameras in both teh Hydro 35 housing(s) for most of his wide angle shots and also Ikelite housings with macro lenses.

I believe he pretty much used the Oceanic 2001 (and maybe later model 2003?) strobes.

Not sure if any camera plate or sticker inside Oceanic Hydro 35 housings designated whether it was a Nikon or Canon model.

These days my incredibly small Ikelite DLM housing with the low cost powerful Canon R100 mirrorless camera is a huge jump in imaging quality and ease of use :)
