Lobster are out of season until late October. Any specific clams (which are molluscs) that you're interested in? I'd check the CDF&G for the regulations on them.

Just curious, what about those big sheep crabs (?) I seen while diving off of Casino Point, Catalina. Yes I know its a preserve, I'm not talking about taking anything there.

Thanks for sharing that link. Very interesting.

Tried sheep crab on two occasions. Yuck. Extremely thick shell, forever and a day to cook, meat was palatable but definitely NOT worth the effort. Save time on the crabs and go after the scallops. Double check, but I think the limit is 10. Depending on where you go, you'll have no problem finding your limit of good sized vittles…

Scallops the limit is 10, if you rip the meat in 1/2 while pulling it from the shell it counts as 2 scallops.

Can you take the entire animal home to schuck, or do you have to clean them there and leave the shell? I remember my father coming home from dive 25+ years ago coming home with his "goodie bag" heavy with whole scallops.

I prefer to do it on site. That way all the little organisms on the shell can return the ocean. Some people even shuck them underwater (although you need to watch for fish that are looking for an easyy meal). I don't think its illegal to take it all home. The only time I take the whole thing home is when I am diving from my car. Ca DFG manual doesnt say anything about it (that I can find, doesnt mean its not there!)
