Is there a Hungry Pelican type (clean and very affordable rooms) place to stay in or near Key West?

Thanks for all advice.

We used to stay at El Rauncho Motel er ah El Rancho, I just looked on Expedia-$179. Good Luck

The very affordable part usually comes with a little trade off of some sort.
I stayed at the Big Pine Key Motel in Big Pine Key a few years back. It's
definitely older accomodations and not the Hyatt Regency. They had a little
diner out front I believe called the Cracked Egg Restaurant which was convenient for
breakfast in the morning. I did a quick search and found what I think is the same
motel at 30725 Overseas Hgwy. It's very close to the looe key marine sanctuary
that has some great diving and snorkeling and its about 30 miles from Key West.

I was able to find a Bed and Breakfast in Key West thats nicely priced and highly rated on Trip Advisor. Probably be a nice change of pace from Key Largo and the HP as well.

BTW, is Fort Jefferson worth seeing while in Key West?

Other things I should see while there?
(All dives I have planned are for Key Largo)

Thanks.

There is not much affordable in Key West. usually when we go, we stay for a week and rent a condo or house and split it with some friends that seems the cheapest way to go. As for Fort Jefferson, Ive been there twice, and it was a nice day trip, worth a day, if you're not diving, but I'd rather be underwater, which brings me to my last point... Diving in Key West is not the best the Keys has to offer, KW is a fun place, but There is better diving in the upper keys, so you have to make some trade offs. If you do dive KW, I always dive with Lost Reef Adventures, nice big boat, never crowded and very freindly staff.

You didn't say what month you are going to Key West, but I've always loved staying at Parmers Resort and many of my friends stay there whenever they visit the lower Keys. It's about a 28 mile drive to Key West, but you'll be very close to the diving of the Looe Key Marine Sanctuary and the National Key Deer Refuge. And you can have pizza at the No Name Pub!!! (If you can find it, that is.)

Debby: My wife and I will be in Key Largo for 5 days, then Key west for 4 days or so. Both in July. Thanks for the links.
