I was reading about Humiston beach recently. Has anyone here been diving there before? I understand there are picnic tables and grills available. If anyone has any experience, how early should a group show up to secure one of the tables/grills for a little pre/post diving socializing?

Thanks

i dive vero every chance i get. humiston is a very nice park right on the beach. i called a friend of mine who lives just off the intracoastal about viz and he said it is zero . i was there earlier this year and the beach access was closed. there is the breckoshire wreck that is a short swim from shore, its boilers are visable at low tide. it is rarely crowded and getting a picknic table should be no problem. call the vero chamber to see if beach access has been restored.

Most of the parks between Ft. Pierce and the Sebastion Inlet were destroyed and there is no beach access. I'll be updating my home pages with the beach access's that are open:

I've got a group that does Beach Dives During the summer when the winds are from the west and the waves small and the vis might hit 15 ft - The Bacardi Limon Beach Dive Team:

Drop an e-mail to Irishman@Sprynet.com to get on the dive e-mail list. We should be starting up our Beach Dives in a month or so, when the vis improves. It's usually later in the summer when we can get up to Vero from the Ft. Pierce Pepper Park. The further north you go - the les is the vis. There's a wreck sunk in 1715 near Pepper Park in Ft. Pierce that we also dive on - the Urca de Lima [ see links above ]!

The usual Beach Dive Profile is to meet at 8:00 am, enter the water by 8:30, 1/2 hr swim out to the reef, 1 hr underwater for maybe a max depth of 12 ft, 1/2 hr swim back then our wonderful Limon Rum Beach Party!
