About as good as I have found is just shy of $700 but I intended to wait a while anyway. Keep me posted if you find something good.
Thanks.

Herman and Scotty,

Ok, I found airfare at $651.00 including taxes RT from RDU, but please wait!!! Let me tell you what we are finding within the industry. There is a HUGE rise in "last minute" bookings. Stats are show that 60% of people are booking with in 30 days and 85% are booking within 60 days. Honestly I think the airfare is also working that way. I think you will find better fares closer to July, maybe in March or April timeframe.

We are finding the LOW airfares of under $600 from RDU for March timeframe right now, that is the pattern we are seeing.

I seems like I always get burnt when I try that. I guess I am used to tickets always skyrocketing the closer I get to travel

2 weeks ago I booked my trip for March 21 and got $359 EWR to bon. Check CO's website, look for the flights that you want and "view seats". This will tell you how close the plane is to getting filled up. When you find the fair your comfortable with, GET IT.

There is absolutely no logic in the way the airlines price things. Me and a buddy of mine booked RT air from RDU to Bonaire for $748 or something like that back in October. We are going Feb. 21st - 28th. Last week the same flights were $570. One day after that it was back to $840. Don't know what it is today?

Same thing going to Little Cayman in May. Everyday the price goes up and down and up and down. We finally booked that yesterday for $642 and today it has jumped more than $100. Go figure.

By the way Liz, we are going to stop by and check your place out when we are there. I read great things about it and I'm always looking for a better value for my money.

Thanks all! I am always checking airfare quite a few times a day. We get a lot of requests, so I'm checking. BDSC, would be great to meet you!!! I guess I've learned the ins and outs of the airfare and am either pretty good and getting lower prices, or just really lucky.

Will keep everyone updated!!

Are great airfare prices like this found every year at this time?

Are prices this low occuring at different times of the year as well?

Is this totally related to the recession in the US?

Does anyone (agents, resort managers, etc) believe that this winter has been a great year for scuba travellers visiting Bonaire WHEN compared to recent years?

From what you've heard, are other Caribbean islands experiencing similar scuba traveling trends to Bonaire?

I will be sure going to keep this in mind next time I book.

It wouldn't have helped much this go round. Although it would have saved us $170.00 per ticket and we could have flown out of our local airport, we would have had to leave at 11am on Friday and not arrive Bonaire until 6 am on Sunday. I think I will spend the extra money this time.

Remember this time last year? Oil was $80/bbl and gas was $2.75/gal. Who knew that by midsummer it would be $140/bbl and $4/gal? If you did then you should have made many thousands in the market and airfares would be no concern. But 99% of the world didn't see it coming, not to that degree. And who knew last summer that by end of year oil would be under $40/bbl and gas under $2/gal? Fuel prices, the biggest expense airlines have, fluctuated to an unprecedented degree last year. So it's perfectly understandable that airlines would be really reluctant to set low prices very far in advance based on today's fuel costs. That's why you are seeing great prices for flights in the next few months but high prices for flights later this summer.
