If you're looking for road maps you'll find pretty much everything you need at www.locatienet.nl You can choose English by clicking on the flag and it gives you road maps and route descriptions for about 40 countries. There are probably regional versions of this if you dig a little.

Google has far, far outclassed every other online map and directions site by a tremendous margin on this one.

Maybe so, but it shows at least three blatant errors in my neighborhood, including two through roads that are actually dead ends and an unnamed cross road that doesn't exist.

It would have been very handy 20 years ago though.

Well it sure looks nice but unless I"m missing something it's totally useless in my neck of the woods.... :)

Up to date data will always be an issue for any system. They (google) probably rely on a Gov publishing cycle for their data...and who knows how out of that date that stuff is...or even what format.

I'm not sure about the US..but in Alberta...the smaller centers (ie Towns and such) their GIS data is very sketchy...might only be on paper.
