Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy my first set of tanks in the coming months and am pretty sure I'd like a set of HP steel 119s or 120s. I dive mostly off NJ on wrecks. For the past two years I've been renting HP steel 120s from my dive shop and they have worked out OK but am thinking the 119s may be a better fit. I'm 6'0'' tall, 190 pounds and dive a Halcyon Eclipse 40 rig. I'm just not too sure of the differences between the 119s and 120s. Is the only difference that the 119 is shorter and fatter and the 120 is taller and skinner? I'm guessing there is really no difference in the volume of air each holds. I'm not looking to double them up right away but would like this to be an option in the future. I've also noticed that the 119s tend to run a tad cheaper than the 120s, any reason for this? If someone could point out some pros and cons to each I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance...

Have you had a chance to rent or borrow a 119? I personally like the shorter 119's over the 120's, and I'm 6 foot 3 or so. But the best bet would be to borrow or rent a 119, or even an Lp95 just to see how you like the fit and feel of the shorter fatter tank.

Actually I haven't tried a 119 yet, you are certainally right... that would be the best thing to do.

As doubles, I tend to prefer the skinnier tank, especially in confined spaces like wrecks.

At 6'3", my HP120s (longer, 7.25"dia) trim better than my LP108's (shorter 8"dia). I can get a bit more gas supply in the 108's though.

That's weird. I wouldn't think that was physically possible:11:

I have never used an 8" tank either. The HP 120s seem to sell very well from my store. I like that they are roughly the same size as the aluminum 80.

I'm 6"3" and perfer the 119's sitting high on my back and shoulders. As tall as I am, the 120's sit on my spine and it's ok, but the 119's are perfect. There is no difference in the fills, depends on your shop. I make 100ft dives constantly and usually have plenty of air, usually start with 3300 lbs after they have cooled. Hope that helps.

I dive off of NY/NJ also. I have the 119s and really like them. I'm relatively short (5'7") and like that they're also short and fit my boby.

If you had a standard cave fill of 3600psi...

The LP108s hold 147cf each. The 120s hold 125cf each.

But if you overfill the 120s by the same percentage, they will hold more.
