I have seen this in a normal valve when there was a problem with the valve itself. The valve appeared fully open but in fact, it was stuck only partially open. Check the valve.

He said it was the high pressure gauge that changed not the LP side? If that is the case, why not check the orifice to the HP hose - etc?
