Thanks to you all for the advice.
Here are a couple answers to some of the post. Yes, I would get another mask but I plan on having the eye surgery in Fed of 2008 so I will stick with the contacts until then. It is a pain to dive and wear contacts. As to my dive buddy, his exp has been great, he has taken the resuce diver and cavern class at Ginnie Springs, which is where we were. I do want to agree with the whole male buddy team, normally he is always there where I can see him, but somehow on this trip I was in the way and should have stayed topside. I have dove Ginnie many of times and feel very comfortable there and in the Ocean. Yes my card is OW and I can learn more with time and exp, but I have learned more from him and his skills then I did in basic. My instructor had me almost 12 pounds underweight on check outs. My first dive trip out I went right thru my safety check cause I was so underweighted and it was my dive buddy that fixed and caught me. I should say that I did trust him and with what happened I am not so trustworthy now. I think the hardest part was that no one was there or aroung if I was unable to control the situation and get back to the top. So for now I plan on looking for a new dive buddy for a while and get those fins back on in the water somewhere. Thanks for all the support.

I am still confused as to how my posts could have been read so incorrectly and on a repeated basis.

What don't you do a cavern course at Ginny yourself? There's no reason why you can't. Hopefully you will learn how to be a safe diver in any situation being exposed to a technical level of diving. I'm very sorry about what happened.
let me congrdulate you for being a smart diver. you did the right things and have the right mindset for diving. we allways teach our student that if you get sepperated from your buddy or buddies, to stop lookaround 360 degrees up and down and than make a controled asscent to the surface, and if your buddy is constanly makeing sure you are around should notice that you are not there and do the same thing, and you should both meet on the surface hook back up and continue the dive or abort.
dont get out of diving. we also teach them that you plan your dive for the least experienced diver of the buddies. it might not be for the most fun of the experienced diver but it makes diving enjoyable for the least experienced. some husband and wife teams are this way because one is allways trying to push the other and they end up getting out of the sport. you dont need to take an advanced course, you just need more time to work on your skills and get comfortable i n the watr and with yourself.
now your husband should not be telling you to not have to rely on someone else in the water for two reasons. first is because that is why it is caled the buddy system. both buddies should be well versed in what the profile will be for the dive, hand and arm signals to be used, how the other persons gear is set up if an emergency arises, lost buddy prcedures, and what you want to do on the dive itself. then be in agreeance with it. second reason is that you are not a solo diver. solo diving requires alot of additional training and equipment. it is nice to be confident to be able to do self rescue to a point, but its your husband that is your dive buddy and he should be with you and support you through you diving, and not push you to get to his level and experience untill YOU are ready.
i hope this is helpful to you and you talk this over with your husband. if he is stil adamint about you diving at his level, it is time to find a ew buddy until you feel ready

Why not take cavern? It is probably an excellent course for any diver. And you don't have to take it in doubles. I would take it simply for the new skills acquired.
If she wants to dive with a buddy who is a cavern diver, she should take cavern.
If she wants to dive with a buddy who is a cavern diver, she should take cavern.

I am going to take the AOW soon, and then I hope to take the Cavern Class. I really enjoy the Caverns and think that the class would help a out a lot. I do know that Cavern will be the last step I am not anytime soon thinking of the Cave classes.
Have you thought about taking Fundies, savannahbell? You should post this experience on the DIR forum and inquire about taking fundamentals. I think you would get some interesting responses.

I started out diving with nothing since I always wear glasses topside, contacts seem to bother me more than they should, so I have just been using them to dive with. I will keep you posted on the eye surgery. I know a lot of people who have had this done and it has worked great for them. I would love to get a script mask but not worth the money at this point if I am goign thru with the surgery.
So know all I need to do is plan a dive weekend and go and have fun. Any takers??? lol
