Can anyone explain how to change the mouth piece on a reg? Want to switch the one on my Aqualung Legend to the Comfort Bite one.

A friend of mine's father once gave us the secret of aircraft maintenance that you could apply here, "Take the old part off before you put the new part on."

Seriously, it is not much more complicated than that. There will be a device that holds the mouth piece on, usually a tie wrap. Take note of where the knob is so that when you install the new one, you will have it correctly positioned. Cut or twist off the old tie wrap, remove the old mouth piece and install the new one. Secure it in place with a new tie wrap.

Next, a water tight check is also very easy to perform and checks the integrity of the second stage housing. Hook the first stage up to a tank and without turning on the air (or if you have a good tight dust cap you can use that instead) draw a breath on the second stage until you hear the diaphragm retract. Do not draw too hard as it will collapse the exhaust valve and cause a leak. Does the regulator hold vacuum? If so, it is probably water tight.

You could do this job faster than I can type the instructions….good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Pretty much what couv says. I like to cut across the tie wrap knob from top to bottom (wire cutter tips on the tie wrap), cutting the knob in 2. This eliminates the possibility of cutting the mouth piece or reg.

Be sure to trim the new tie wrap nice and flush so nobody gets cut. A pair of toenail clippers makes quick work of this.

Although it's probably not really necessary, I use an emery board on the cut end to get it nice and smooth.
