Hi Guys,
I have a fiber optic cable to use with a YS-90 strobe and an Olympus SP-350 camera inside an Olympus PT-030 housing.

I am not sure how to connect the fiber optic cable to the housing. Should I black out the camera flash or blackout the housing only? How do I attach the end of the optic cable to the housing?

Have you done this on your camera, care to send a picture?

Thanks so much

Not sure what cord you have.

You black out the housing on the inside with black electrical tape, except for a small area for the flash. Attach the cord (usually with clear velcro) on the outside over it. Sometimes you have to take the diffuser plate off.

Hi,
This is pretty much the cord I have
Sea & Sea | Fiber Optic Cable | SS-04090 | B&H Photo Video

I only have the cord. And it has plugs on both ends.
That's why I am not sure how to mount that plug to the housing. How to keep it stable and attached? KNow what I mean?

Thanks

That cord won't work, I don't think. You need one of the ones like in my store that has a velcroed ends. I sell a plug #61115 that fits the strobe.

See: Sync cord, Plug.

I already have the diffuser with the retainer for the cord on the strobe. So that part of the problem is solved. I just need to figure out how to fix the other end.
I imagine I can always try to cut the plug and make my own velcro attachment.

See the link I posted in your thread on wetpixel.

Hey, don't need to let everyone know that I post the same question on 3 different forums. hehehe

No, but thanks for the link. But $30 for a velcro and grommet is a lot. I will try to build one, if I can't then I will buy it.

Thanks

I am thinking that if I can find some type of grommet or a nut that can hold the optic cable, I could then try to fix it to the housing using a velcro or a sticker.

What do you guys think?

Or, could I cut the plug off and just connect the cable with a velcro or sticker to the housing?

Thanks

Hi,

with a fibre optic make sure you exclude all the light coming from an integrated flash from the photograph. i found some light was getting through the plastic around the lens & it put a hot spot on all my photos. what i used in the end was some filters available from inon which you stick over the integrated flash - they work.

not the actual fixing, Cameras Underwater sold me a plastic piece which you velcro to the housing having cut couple of small holes in the velcro.

i changed to sync cable, but the one thing i was happy with was the plastic fitting.

Do you have the same camera and housing I have?

I was thinking of just using black tape of the camera flash, just leaving a little bit exposed.

Thanks
