I do sometimes. If I'm on vacation diving a shorty, and want an SMB, it goes in a waist band pocket. It works fine.

Tom

Tom, thank you so much for your insight on this subject matter...When I first joined the board I would often scroll through to find your posts. You have helped to define who I am today.....and for that I say "THANK YOU"....

Now on a serious note, be very careful how far you take this. This is how stuff like Dork Divers gets started

Yes thank you for your Advice. ROFL....

I suppose It was a little odd, and maybe I should have left it private. did not intend to leave anyone out. Still laughing though.

While StreetDoctor is left crying in his secluded corner of the net.....

P.S. SD, I'm not diving with you till you get all your gear to match again....S_ro_e...You can fill in the blanks.....:D

Dan, I don't think I've ever been around you where you weren't stirring the pot! Better watch out or Nick just might snap on you two days into Tech 1.

I've never seen anyone dive with both a bellows pocket and can light on the right side of the waist strap. It sounds like you need to get some thigh pockets for your wet/dry suit that can be sewn or glued on. The only thing on the left side of your waist should be your SPG clipped to the left hip D ring and any stage bottles if applicable.

Ditto. No need to x-shorts for easy warm water vacation diving, I can cram everything I really need into one pocket on the belt. Does the job while on vacation, at least.

For those interested in adapting to a vacation situation ...

My girlfriend left her X-shorts behind on our trip to Bermuda and successfully placed a Halcyon pocket between the SPG and her belt buckle (though it is a pain to remove). She tried placing the pocket in front of her canister light, but her waist was far too narrow.

On vacation, since some items only require one per team, divers without X-shorts or pockets may opt to carry items in a flat pocket such as Dive Rite's in front of a canister light. I use an old flat Dacor pocket from the 80's this way from time to time. Teammates may carry larger items such as back-up masks if they have appropriate pockets.

Another pocket option for drysuits and wetsuits ...

I have excellent mesh pockets on my old DUI drysuit. Pablo from Stingray Divers in Brooklyn, NY installed them. Bill Main gave these two thumbs up for better streamlining as far as pockets go when I was cave diving in FL. These have outlasted two pairs of X-shorts and several Halcyon pockets on my friend's suits. They never had a hole or tear. Buddies were also able to view my pocket contents. If Pablo still has these bellows pockets they are worth checking out. The downside is that they are zipper pockets, but even 10 years later the dual zippers on each work perfectly.
