Hi,

I have the Canon S90 with Canon WP-DC35 housing. When shooting in manual mode, how to adjust speed with camera in the UW housing?

thanks,

Jason

You would be better of to just shoot Av and use the front ring to handle exposure compensation. Otherwise you have to reassign the front ring function to shutter speed and then back to f stop.

Or, get the FIX housing which has both control rings.

Hold down the shift (S) button and use the left (macro) or right (flash) buttons to adjust the shutter speed up or down (assuming you have the back ring set to adjust Tv).

What he said but, in Manual mode the default front control ring setting is shutter speed and one of the options is f stop. Usually you select a shutter speed that is suitable for the conditions and leave it set and vary aperture (f stop) to alter exposure.

So:

Step one, turn on camera and select front ring function with top right button to "Default" and set in your shutter speed, I suggest 1/125 sec.

Step two, select front ring function as above but instead choose the (+/-) symbol and now you should be able to control f stop with the front ring directly without any button shifting and pushing.

I hate buttons.

On my S90, and in Manual mode, the default setting for the front ring is Av.

Yes, thank you, that is correct, nonetheless, what I said still works, just reverse my instructions, where I said "default" insert (+/-) etc.

The concept is that like in the old days with manual cameras we selected the shutter speed for the prevailing conditions and varied exposure with the lens ring for f stop. The shutter speed on a Nikon/Canon slr was on a dial up top and not so easy to manipulate while shooting, sorta like pushing buttons with the S90 and OEM housing. But, the aperture/f stop ring was on the lens and it was easy to dial it while we focused (Manual focus also , lol) so the concept is the same here. Set in a reasonable shutter speed, bright conditions maybe 1/250, dark, dim, cloudy then maybe 1/60 and for everything else, 1/125 @ISO 100. Adjust exposure with the easy to use front ring control via aperture (f stop).

For me, the less button pushing and hold and then shift the better.
