guys was doing a 4rth dive yesterday and saw the weirdest creature i have ever scence. looked like a crawling technicolored/tie dye cuttlefish. was about palm sized and had a neat trick of sticking out a long harpoon/tentacle/tounge out of its mouth to catch small fish. i knew i should ahve brough my camera, after that i describe it to friends and they say i have just scene a flamboyant cuttlefish. which is supposedly very rare in the philippines. i know of people who have been diving for decades and havent seen one.

Don't know how rare they are in the PI, but they are relatively easy to find around Lembeh (N. Sulawesi, Indonesia). There are two species of Flamboyant: Metasepia pfefferi and Metasepia tullbergi.

Distribution of Metasepia pfefferi is from Indonesia to eastern Papua New Guinea and across northern Australia. Metasepia tullbergi (aka Northern Flamboyant Cuttlefish) can be found from Hong Kong to southern Japan.

Yeah, I love 'em. Have only seen a flamboyant cuttlefish on three separate occasions, all in Lembeh Straits - once at Larry's Crack and twice at Hairball.
