I found a guy with a 5 year old Zeagle Ranger that has been recently serviced. BC is said to have very few dives and looks to be in good condition. Anyone have any thoughts on what it might be worth? Also, what is the service life of a good BC like the Ranger if well taken care of?

Thanks,

Check out eBay, as there's an active market in used Rangers.

I just bought a weird Ranger variant, called a Nite Runner, for just over $70. (I want to have a 44 lb. bladder to use with my Brigade when in cold water with lots of weight and neoprene.)

However, you should first make sure that it fits you just right. Zeagles are modular, so your LDS can set you up with different sized parts to give you a custom fit.

It is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. A new Ranger is $600+ and a Ranger LTD is $700+

I recently purchased a used LTD (12 dives) in new condition for $425 and feel that I got a really good deal.

I have a zeagle concept that I will give you a good deal on!

Thanks for the responses. I guess I am looking for feedback as to what would be the useful residual life out of a five year old ranger with consideration of normal wear and tear but well taken care of. In other words, does a 5 year old Ranger with 35 dives on it still have a lot of life left in it or should keep looking for something newer. Basically I need a Kelly Blue Book for BC's :).

Thanks

If the Ranger has been recently serviced, I would have no issues diving a 5 year old Ranger. It's a rugged BCD and it really hasn't changed significantly in the past 5 years. The one thing that newer Rangers have that people seem to like are the trim pockets. Certain model years had them.

As for value of a Ranger, I've seen it go from $250 to $450, depending on size and condition. eBay is a good gauge, as well as ScubaBoard's own classifieds section.

When checking out the BCD, check inflator, dump, and look at the internal bladder. Those are the wear items. With only 35 dives, these components should be in great condition. As for serviceable life, it depends on how much you dive and how well you take care of your gear. It should last you years of diving or hundreds of dives. It's a well made BCD.

I guess it is a moot point now. I was talking to an internet seller today and he just sold me a new Ranger for $450.00 including shipping (obviously not an LTD model). At that price why buy used.

My wife is going to be so happy with her new Christmas gift...if she ever decides to get certified and gain 60 lbs. In the mean time I will have use it to make certain it is always operational:rofl3:.

I bought a 15 year old Ranger for $125 last year. The bladder was like new! Even though the seller said that it had been served recently I sent it too Zeagle. They changed the buckles so the entire system would be compatible with the new. So I now have a basically a Brigade with no pockets since the older Ranger had no pockets. Man do I love that feature!
I wouldn't hesitate to spend half of retail for a used Ranger.
