I'm making the switch to BP/W. I just found a great deal on a wing and I ordered a BP. How much webbing do I need to order to make a harness?

Thanks,
Jeff

If you are going to order it get 15 feet. You probably won't need that much but better too much than too little. A great place to get webbing is Scuba equipment, Dive gear, reefscuba.com, Manufacturer of scuba diving equipment. Buy brass hardware, stainless steel hardware, surgical tubing, latex surgical tubing, bungee cord, parachute cord, Waterborne watch bands, SEACURE mouthpieces, velcro

Don't forget to get a crotch strap... order one from Oxy or someone like that. Oxy also has nice quality hardware. (Don't try to use the same webbing that you will use for your harness... its too stiff.)

If you plan to make the entire harness out of resin reinforced webbing (the stiff stuff) then get 15 ft.

If you are going to use a separate crotch strap, typically made from a softer weave webbing, then you need about 12 ft.

Crotch straps made from softer webbing usually require some sewing, and there are a number of commercially available crotch straps sold today.

DSS offers such a crotch strap. If you plan to purchase a ready made crotch strap you should first check what hardware is included with the crotch strap, as this may impact what Drings and keepers you might need to buy to complete your harness.

it really depends on how big you are...lol.
i'm sure 15 ft is pretty enough for most applications. both me and my wife are pretty small and could easily make two with 15 ft.
have fun putting your first Bp/W together. it's a great learning experience!

I guess I'm about your size, because 15 feet turned out to be about twice what I need. Oh well, you can always use some extra webbing.:D

This was a great help. Only question I have is, what is the plastic buckle for?

A second buckle is often used to secure a canister light to the right waist strap. Slide the can light on, position it just in front of the plate, then slide the buckle on and close it to prevent the can from moving.
