Rough guess estimated numbers...

Let's call your 15L cylinder 120cf.

My 11cfm compressor draws about 5.8kw while running. At your electricity rates that's about USD$1.8/hr running rate, or about 3 cents per minute. At 11cfm, your 15L/120cf cylinder would take about 11 minutes to run- so about 33 cents (My actual rate here is $0.19/kWh so it's even less)

In other words, electricity cost is almost never a factor in the expect of filling a cylinder, especially when you look at the real costs like compressor and filter maintenance, air testing, and amortized repairs. If you're pumping enough air to notice it on the power bill, hopefully there's an associated income stream attached to all of those fills like classes, rentals, or just fees for fills.

Also, you might want to request to move this over to the Compressor forum...

Thank you very much for your info. I guessed it was about 50 cents.

Why I asked was because I was getting my tanks filled (6 of them at $4.50 each for a total of $27) 15 times monthly for a total of $405 per month. This was for 10 months in a row.

Then the filler got a $450 electric bill, and stopped filling my tanks, he didn't have any other customers in the dive shop that month. (These types of anomalies happen in the third world)

Now I am thinking that I may have to get my own compressor.

$11,000 for a 380 Coltri

plus $90 a month rent for a place to keep it.

plus electricity.

maybe also labor $20 per week

for a total of around $250 a month plus the $11,000-guestimate vs $405

Odd that he stopped filling your tanks instead of just adjusting the price accordingly.

Tell him you'll pay the electric bill, but your tanks get filled for free.
