It has recently been calulated that in the south of the Netherlands(zeeland),on a anual basis,1.000.000 dives are made.In one of our local training lakes(Oostvoorne)They've made a divecount of 600.000 per year.:11:
No figures on the rest of the lakes.

Do you have any numbers on your local divesite?

How are those calculations made? Nobody I know of keeps statistics, except people who maintain individual dive logs.

I only know that 60% of my dives are local...

Counting divers comming to the site and astemating the numbers of dives they make.(Zeeland)
Oostvoorne, just counting the dives made over a period of a couple of months.

Have a link here,but it's in Dutch.Natuurlijk, Oostvoornse Meer!

600.000 is quite clear.:D

Oh and yes we DO keep count,we love counting things.:D

i wouldnt even know how they would count the number of dives for my sites... im sure it would be a huge number though

I see ... that would be impossible where I live. There are dozens of dive sites just in the greater metropolitan area ... some in residential areas that are reached by walking down paths between houses. Expand that out to include Hood Canal and the San Juan Islands and you're talking hundreds of dive sites.

The more popular ones ... which are typically where classes are taught ... can get quite crowded on week-ends, especially between April and October. And it would be really difficult to guesstimate how many dives each visitor does. Because access is so easy, a lot of people will just pop down to the local mudhole on a whim, gear up and do a single dive. Other people insist on two or three dives every time they go (especially if they're renting gear, since they have to justify the cost).

Never really thought about how many dives per year get done in Puget Sound. It sure would be an interesting statistic ... and one that might help us justify a few projects divers have been clamoring for.

Seems to me a pretty good estimate would be to get an idea how many tanks get filled by shops in the area. Then toss on a bit more to cover charters and personal compressors in the area.
