The older kits had separate seats, poppets and poppet o-rings. The new ones come with a poppet assembly. Replace the whole assembly and it is covered.

Those must be some very old kits, I just found some vintage 1991-92 with the orange poppet assemblies in bucket style blister packs in a save a dive kit, the one I opened was already pre assembled with the seat included, however it had no o-rings installed.

Anyone have an idea how long the shelf life is for those D350/D400 service kits/parts? Would those from 1992 still be useable?

In my experience the older poppets are a lot better than the new ones.

So...NO...do not use them under any circumstances...THEY ARE DANGEROUS...send them to me for proper disposal and I will exchange them for new ones.

It really depends on the type of diving you do. Cold- or warm water, salt or fresh water, silty conditions, lengths of each dive (a 5 hour dive puts more stress on your regulator than a 30 minute dive). I would say between 50 and 100 dives for the average Open Water diver, or at least once per year, preferable before you use the regulator again after a longer break!

However, I have seen regulators not serviced for years and several dives, and they still did work. Would I do it? No way, I have just one live and even screwing a nice dive is not worth saving the money for a service!!!
