I love the cenotes, my wife hates them (one dive) and has forbade me from thinking about cave diving.

I did my first Cenote dives in December, I booked 4 days over two weeks. I had a private guide and we did Cenote Eden, TajmaHa, two dives in Dos Ojos then the the following week we did Chicknha then Grand Cenote and Carwash.

I am planning on going back in September and will dive Cenotes for 6 days. I found them fascinating :)

Without really thinking about it, I came up with 9 different places where the tours are done, and each place is quite different from the others. Some have large rooms, some are heavily decorated, some have lots of light, some are much more cave-like. As already said, you will either love being there and want to do them all (and much more) or you will come out and say, "Okay, I've done that."

For us, we're kind of in the same position as Dirty-Dog ... our diving happens on major trips, not on weekends or after work. And we are big-time fans of SE Asia destinations, and all of the reef life that goes with them. So there is no real interest in pursuing cavern or cave training for either of us.

Don't get me wrong ... I think it's fascinating, and certainly a difficult discipline, and I respect it ... just not for us. But with our next Indo trip not happening until early 2012, due to jobs, $$$, etc., we're looking for a shorter trip with a little variety, so the cenote idea came up. The responses here are pretty much what I expected ... some love it, some not so much, and that's just fine. We'll see what happens ....

Haven't been skiing since yesterday ... going back up on Monday. Should have most of a foot of fresh powder by then!

I was just kidding (and drunk). I can only imagine that I'd be mesmerized by the cenotes.

Loved it. Made my 300th dive in a cenote and dove three of them. I would have done more if I was able but we also swam with whale sharks, reef dives, etc. Plan to go back again but will take my 5mm suit and 2 big lights. Cold and dark in there, but I would do it again because it's absolutely awesome.

If nothing else, it's a good place to rinse your gear after a week of salt water diving.

... a remark I've heard from more than one person ...

I can relate ... today is National Drink Wine Day (honest, I did not make that up) and I bought a special bottle to celebrate it ... which we are doing presently. :)
