The answer to this is probably here somewhere, but I couldn't find it.....

I have a scubapro mask I've had for probably six years. It has always leaked some but it seems like it's leaking more now, often getting half full of water within a few minutes of being cleared. I try to keep leakpoints to a minimum and do rinse the mask after every use.

It still holds a seal when I test it at home.

Is it possible that this thing is due for a replacement?

Thanks!

It depends on the quality. I purchased a Dacor Vista when I got certified in 1988, and now, 15 years and 460+ dives later, it is still my primary mask. I had to change the strap 3 times, and the clear cillicone is now more of a yellowish color, but the seal and comfort are still there. I fully expect to have to buy a new mask in the future, but I guess it will be later rather than sooner, because I take so good care of it, the plastic rim still looks brand new.

Of course, if yours is leaking, I would strongly advise you replace it ASAP.

Lasted more than 15 years.
And was still good to dive when I switched to a low profile mask.

My dad got certified in 1961 and he still has his original mask and still dives with it. You just have to take care of your equiptment thats all. I treat my masks like eggs. After all they are one of your most important peices of equiptment ...if you like to see when you are diving that is. get a mask box don;t put the mask face down so it gets scratched. My favorite maks is an old dacor it is prob 20 some odd years old but I love it I have aquired about 4 of them in recent years and a few off ebay.

A mask should last until you drop a tank or something similar on it ;)

I'd say after 6 years I wouldn't have too much trouble replacing it, and since it's leaking so much I'd recommend it.

No worries after 6 years. Go get a new one.

If it leaks, don't even keep it as a spare. You can find better use for the space it would take up.
