How Long Have You Waited on The Surface?

1 hour what is that???
I remember at army freezing into the bone, staying there without moving, can't check the watch, feeling like dieing from cold and that 12 hours after 3-4 hours you don't know how much time is gone already, after 6-7 hours you don't care how much time is gone. That in the middle of Vienna, the most dangerous thing there are pigeons.
Sometimes I got the idea to put a bullet in the window overthere (had gun), just because jail and or doc might be less boring than staying there.
So I think one hour in the water and someone nervous I sleep a little bit as the other is anyway alert for two people....

A group of 7 of us bobbed (stayed as stationary as possible) for about 2 hours off Goff's Caye in Belize before the boat found us. The DM didn't have a surface marker for the drift dive, and acted as though this was standard procedure. I thought it was daft, but despite several indications to the contrary, I trusted that they knew what they were doing.

At least someone in the group (me) had a whistle and sausage. It wasn't a bad float all things considered, but I felt bad for the father and son who got seasick.

Longest I've waited was about a half-hour ... at a place in British Columbia that's known for currents. Oddly, my boat never did come pick me up ... another boat in the area did, and took me back to the dock.

Turns out the boat captain took exception to me bringing my (at the time, airhog) buddy to the surface then going back down for another 15 minutes of solo diving ... so he left me there ...

Haven't been back since. I will someday, because the diving's fantastic ... and I will probably go with the same outfit. They have their idiosyncrocies, but they're better than the other dive charters at that location ...

Oh, I suspect he sent the other boat to get me ... although he never said so. Dude has a history of "making a point" with divers who do things he doesn't like ...

The dude owns the dive charter ... and he's in a place where the diving is awesome and competition is limited.

You know the saying ... "when you're the only show in town you don't have to be good".

But to be fair, if you follow his rules he does treat you well ...

We surfaced after a drift dive in Bunaken and found the dive boat was at the other end of the reef, and the crew were looking the other way (thought the current was running opposite to what it was, perhaps?). A couple of us had SMBs and inflated them, and we floated around for maybe 15 minutes before they noticed us. There were other boats in the area, and I never felt as though we were abandoned. It was more irritating than anything else, and not very irritating, as the water was in the low 80's and the day was beautiful.
