Which o-ring? The case has several, including all control buttons. My guess is you are refering to the large o-ring that seals the case halves. IMHO, check it for defects such as cuts, deformations, pliability, cleanliness, proper lubrication, and a final inspection each time you close the housing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! IMHO, if it's right and secure, the less you do the better off you will be. IMHO!

Very hard to say because it is different for everyone. For someone like you and me, that can use the housing 100's of times a year, the "life" of an o-ring will be shorter than someone that only uses it a couple of weeks in the year (providing they are in good care).

That said, it's still hard to say an exact time line. With good care they may last a year or more (depending on material, usuage and storage). Like Jet says, stay alert, notice differences (stretching too) in your O-ring and always have a spare.

Where do you guys get your spare o-rings for the canon housings?

My Canon dealer had to order it but it came in 4 or 5 days and much better to have it before you need it.

Hmmm, I have 75+ dives on my O-Ring and it seams fine. I also take it off after each dive so I don't streach it too much. It also gets lubbed....once and a while ;) I should probably order a spare!

I ordered my spare o-rings and extra tube o' lube directly from Canon. They have an accessories section on their web site.

thanks guys! is it recommended you remove the o-ring when storing?

I still have an original oring in one canon, and a replaced (after 18 months) in the other.

I remove the oring if I think the housing will not be used for a couple months or so. I stick it in a baggie inside the housing - I always know where it is and it's safe. If the housing will be used sooner than that, I leave it in.
