I am not sure if this thread belongs here since it crosses so many grounds, but I thought this was a very interestng article that covered diving, conservation and a little thought "who says we can't stay down forever?"....

I saw a news clip this morning about "coral coffins" and was just going to post where to find out more. But you beat me to it. Sounds like a great idea.

Sound like another money making scheme to me, but ok........not bad.

Short version on p.28 of November's Scuba Diving mag.

Have you ever walked through a cemetary at night? This could put a whole new twist to night diving. Underwater scuba ghosts hanging around the "coffin reef". Who ya gonna call? Scubaghost Busters!

I've known about this for years but never got the details. Pretty neat, you get the reef balls built and deployed via private funding.

Does each "funeral ball" get a plaque or something to identify the person? I'd demand that, personally. Also specific GPS coordinates for final placement.

I wouldn't mind to be cremated when the time comes and have my ashes rest beneath the surface of my favourite dive spot.
