Hi im new to these boards. I was wondering how hard it is to find employment in the scuba diving industry? I was thinking on taking courses to get certified. Is there many jobs that don't have to do with instructing? What is the average wage you can expect to make? I live in Canada, BC. Any information would help.
Thanks a lot.

you can make a good living in the dive industry, however most people are in the industry because they love the sport. If you want to get rich, do something else, if you want a cool job with the oportunity to travel, you are in the right place.

Most people start their dive careers as dive instructors and then branch into something else...

What sort of job are you looking for??

Im not too sure what types of jobs are out there... Anything with diving would be awsome. Is it hard to find the first job? I might take out a loan to pay for training, would that be a good idea?

Hi Dustin.

Finding a job in the dive industry is easy. Finding one that pays actual money is next to impossible whree I live. Most dive professionals are essentially volunteers and of the ones who do get paid most of them would make more money selling little bags of sand to people sitting on a beach. I consider myself one of the lucky ones because I get compensated in such a way that it pretty much covers the costs of my hobby. If you're *really* lucky you'll live in the tropics where you can work on a boat and make tips, watch 1/2 naked members of the opposite sex sunbathing and work as a massage therapist on the side....
