I ended up removing the innertube from the bottom slots and using keepers. The innertube didn't hold the webbing in place as firmly as I wanted. But I have a FredT finished plate and the edges are not self-locking.

It takes a little more work to thread the tube and webbing thru the tri glide, but it will fit.

It should be again stated: This webbing has a strength to lift a car, and the 1/4" tear the plate caused my first time out (before I knew enough to de-burr my plate and when I was significantly over-weighted) was in no way a safety concern. It was simply an eyesore.

Anyone have the web address or info on where to order a FredT back plate?

Thanks-
Chris

I'm sorry, but I'm just laughing here. Why are you defending them so much? Why should you have to do anything to your plate? You just plunked down a good wad of cash for gear that is defective and partially destroyed your webbing. It shouldn't happen period, and it's not your fault for not knowing enough or being overweighted. You shouldn't have to hack your gear with duct tape or bicycle tubes to solve the problem.

Remember - Johnny eBay here. Who knows if the plate came with issues, or if the previous owner was a thug with his gear.

I'm by no means a Halcyon apologist - but I wanted to offer some perspective. For me:

* 1 light failure - New (purchased from eBay.) Manufacturer's defect, repaired free of charge, quickly and cheerfully

* BP/W - Used (purchased from eBay.) Corner webbing damage, may or may not have been a Halcyon issue.

* ACB - New (purchased from Lloyd Bailey.) No issues

However, it IS your responsibility to assure your life support is in good working shape. This includes giving brand new plates the once over to be sure there are no burrs. This is my first plate - I just set it up, went diving and paid a price for not checking.

No matter if its Halcyon, OMS, Deep Outdoors, Koplin, FredT or whoever... surely you'd agree that its the Diver's responsibility to give his/her gear a thorough inspection before getting it wet (or an inspection by qualified service personnel, when appropriate.) That's the intent of my follow on posts, if I wasn't being clear.

I too have a Halcyon plate that liked to "eat" webbing.

A few minutes with a dremel fixed it, but by God, is it that hard to deburr the slots?!

I agree its the divers responsibility to inspect his gear, but obviously this is a repeated problem with their product. They should make it right.

If this was an automobile and something caused the seat belt to get cut 'a little' there would be a recall.

Well, I have a Pioneer and an Exploror wing...zero problems.

It seems that Halcyon has nixed the mirror finish and has gone with a bead blast look. Perhaps this will help take care of any sharp edges.

FWIW

I've owned the Halcyon Eclipse and BP, and the FredT plate and Oxycheq wing. The Halcyon Eclipse & BP went to eBay. Still diving the other :D .
