Thanks everyone (and Scubaboard). I have an appointment with a doctor/ retinal specialist @ 1:30 today. Left to my own devices, I probably would have ended up talking to a Walmart optometrist.

An optometrist would have echoed all the other warnings about getting an eye exam. Especially after getting your history. A sudden onset of floaters, especially accompanied by a flashes in a bright environment, could be a symptom of a retinal tear or possible detachment. If you have myopia (near sightedness) there is a higher risk for detachment.

How are you doing?

Any updates?

Spots tiny now and almost gone. No tear or detachment. Small blob still there. Was examined by a Duke educated surgeon who dives. Seemed excellent and very thorough (seemed to double/triple check the exam). I don't think I could have found a better doctor. Although, he was shocked that I was diving in 52 degree water:), I would stridently recommend him to any diver near 28803 area code. Thanks to everyone.

There's some debate, but you may want to look into "AREDS2" vitamins (that's not a brand name, that's a specification for contents) for your eyes. Either they are clinically proven to help with eye and retinal health as you age, or they are not, depending on who you talk to. But considering how risky and imperfect retinal surgery can be, and how many issues it can't help...Vitamins seem like cheap insurance.
