There was a lady on our liveaboard who had a Rescue Diver-AOW C-card and a Nitrox C-card with ONLY SIX DIVES!!!!!!!! I could not believe this...I asked the DM on the boat to verify what SHE told me and he stated that is what she put down on the release paperwork. It was apparent that she was a new diver especially when she did the giant stride and fell face first in the water. She was yelled at by the Divemaster because she sucked her air down fast and left her divebuddy behind. On the second dive the Divemaster told her to look straight ahead when doing the giant stride (basic right) telling her this after he had to turn her air on. Well, she didn't listen and went face first AGAIN loosing her goggles!!! My divebuddy and I were cracking up laughing saying," see that!, there is an excellent Rescue Diver". Before the trip ended mostly everyone on the boat was laughing at her and she was the topic of conversation. The ironic thing about her is that she was arrogant and quick to offer advise and tell everyone how wonderful she is. Question: Why did the DM let her dive when he knew that her c-cards are B.S.?????

Because he believes in the theory of survival of the fittest.

This is too bad. Sometimes people come off arrogant if they are unsure or afraid. Maybe a quiet conversation with her and an offer to help would have made things better.

If I needed some help, I'd hate to be on that boat...

It happens all the time, further proof that cards don't make a diver......

She should of thought of that before she screwed the system....Oh well, eventually she will learn a lesson and ask for help. She is a certified AOW Rescue diver why would she need help? She made her bed and now she can lay in it. Why attempt to justify her ignorance? Even if tried I am sure she would not heed the advise. You are correct you would not want to be on the boat in need of help especially if you misrepresent yourself. An AOW Diver who cannot do a giant stride is humourous, an AOW Rescue Diver who leaves their buddy behind is ignorant. Her divebuddy dropped her after the first dive she then latched on and followed others without a divebuddy.

Don't you need 20 dives to get the Rescue cert? I don't see it on the PADI Rescue page, but I seem to remember that number for some reason.

Yes, there are dive requirements for Cert levels. However, apparently there are some Instructors out there that can be bought... Then you have some people (previous response) that attempt to make an excuse for the ignorant actions of another. Those that attempt to justify the ill actions of another are more and likely doing it themselves....

HUH??!!! SIX?

OW - At least 4 dives
AOW- A bunch....4 specialty plus some
Rescue- Quite a few i would hope

How'd she get all those certs with 6 dives?

Could she buy a full cave cert with no dives? One would hope not. And that they'd let her buy a RESCUE cert should be criminal
