Hello again to all,
Just wanted to ask for information on determining course fees.
I am a new instructor and I have a round about idea but!!!
How do you brake down the costs I put out verses- what to charge my students?
If some one can point me to an archive or forum to get this, it would be of great help

And again Thanks :dazzler1:

If you are a new instructor I would have expected that to be covered in your training. There are so many variables that change by region but I am very surprised you did not go over that when you became an instructor.
You should sign up to the instructor forum and ask this question.

If you are an instructor, submit your details to one of the other mods (i dont know how the system works) to get access to the instructor 2 instructor forum. I believe topics like this might have come up in the past. Welcome to the board.

Wouldn't this be better off in the I2I forum?

I have randomly sent a few of the mods my instructor info and asked them to see that it got to the right individuals so that I could access the instructor only areas but I have not heard anything from them. Who should I send my info to? I would appreciate if the appropriate person would PM me.

Overall cost to the student would include your cost of agency materials like books, videos, dive tables etc. Then you need to recover costs for anything you provide in the way of equipment or gear i.e. tanks, regulators, BC's, wetsuits, hoods, gloves weight belt/weights. Don't forget to cover the cost of airfills also. Then you have to recover classroom and pool rental fees as well as any maintainence costs you have for all that gear you provide. Also you need to recover the costs of all the materials you had to buy to become an instructor and the fees and insurance that you pay for. Then theres the cost of operating your vehicle.

Of course you should also be paid for your time as well. What so you feel you are worth per hour? How many hours will you be putting into your classes , both directly with your students and time spent preparing your lessons?

The above covers most of the things you need to think about. Next you need to figure out how you are going to apportion those costs based on how many students you plan to teach and certify in some given period of time.

Hopefully that will give you something to think about ;)

Best regards,

jbd
