I am searching options for housings for my Canon S2 IS and I have only been able to find the Ikelite product. Canon makes a housing for the Canon S1 IS, but not the S2. Would anyone be able to tell me why the housing for the S1 would not work for the S2? From everything I've seen comparing the S1 to the S2, the size of the two camera models remained the same and only internal changes were made. Canon's S1 housing is a lot cheaper that the Ikelite, and I would like to know if it would work.

I don't own either of these cameras, so I'm certainly no expert. I did a quick look at the two on dpreview and it doesn't look like the S2 would work with a housing designed for the S1. Doesn't look like any of the operating buttons would be in the correct location for the S1 housing to operate them. Add to that the fact that the lens is a larger diameter on the S2 and the extended length overall is 104mm compared to 90mm for the S1. It also appears that the S2 is 5mm deeper towards the back from the tripod mount. It looks to me like Ikelite is your only option.

Dhokens is correct.

There were some pretty significant changes made between the S1 and the S2. Changes made between the S2 and S3 were internal as both work in the Ikelite housing. I'm facing your same challenge with an S3. We either buck up and by the Ikelite or pick up another less expensive camera/strobe combination. I like the camera so well I've decided to go with the ikelite.

Thanks for the info. I guess I won't be using it underwater in the near future. I can't afford the Ikelite housing for a while.

Does the S2 S3 come with macro mode and a deidicated UW-mode/ UW-white balance?
That's what I missed most on my S1 IS and wide angle...

Not sure about S2 but I have a S3, and I used to own a S1. S3 has both a macro and supermacro mode. S3 has a few more functions, compared to S1 but it doesn't have a underwater mode.
