Speaking of mandarinfish - I was in Yap and Palau, and spent approximately 2 hours with mating couples...... the result? One almost decent pic.... How I would have loved no shutter lag!'

ReyeR:
Ok, no more hijacking this thread, but alaity47, you see why everyone's encouraging you to house the 300D instead of spending on a prosumer setup.

Yeah, the primary reason to house a DSLR is to become a better fish pornographer, hehehehehehe

A 5050 is not as cheap as one may think if you want a full system. A reliable housing (NOT a PT), 2 strobes, tray/arms, WAL, 2 cameras, batteries, misc...... I'm at $3000 & counting, but happy. A DSLR system would be twice that much, bigger & more parts.

but have decided against housing it for now. Instead, I recently purchased a Canon s50 (5mp) with underwater housing for just under $600 (Ikelite's housing for the 300d starts at around $1200). The s60, with a wider angle lens and an underwater shooting mode (whatever that is) is due out this month... I didn't want to wait.

Price was not my primary consideration. I decided on housing the s50 because of it's size... it's pocketable! Having shot underwater video for years (I'm on my third Ikelite housing, and I love 'em) I've found that I'm often reluctant to carry the behemoth around.

I've missed out on an awful lot of photo ops because I didn't bother with bringing a camera along, so when it came time for a digital still camera, I decided to try something smaller... something I believe I'll carry with me and use more often.

From a photographer's point of view, housing the Rebel is enticing. For underwater "snapshots" (if there are such things), smaller may be better... at least, that's my take!

Dang, now I don't know what to do. I just spent around 300 bucks on the reefmaster rc, 3x closeup lens, buoyancy control weight and the external strobe for it and now want to advance to something better but shutter lag scares the crap outta me. I've still got a Pentax Super Program SLR that I bought with my graduation money from highschool in 1987 and I absolutely still love the thing. Took 2 rolls of film with it on land in Cozumel and they turned out great. So, if I'm looking for a DSLR and housing whats my best bet? Which is the worse culprit, having to focus or shutter lag? Thanks, Greg
