Hi I will be diving for one month in Leyte Philippines. As in the previous post I have been having trouble with sticky buttons on my canon housing. Should I soak the camera and housing in fresh water at night for the month I am diving? Thanks Bruce

I use simple green and water to rinse my gear post-dive and it works great. If you don't have access to SG you can use vinegar which breaks down the salt. If you use either, soaking overnight is not necessary. A half hour at the most should be fine.

Soaking as Jocull describes would be good insurance but it is only helping you avoid salt deposits, which are typically more common in long term storage situations than they are in "dive every day" situations. This is NOT implying you shouldn't rinse/soak between dives or at the end of the day but it doesn't deal with the friction of the shafts sliding through the tiny o-rings. Gilligan's response about carrying some silicone and using it periodically during your month there would be prudent. // ww
