My LDS is taking a Coz trip partially during Carnaval. I understand from folks who have gone in prior years during Carnaval, that it's not the place to be if you're looking for a good night's sleep. With diving being my #1 priority while we're there, a good night's sleep is pretty important for me, since I'm still very much a scuba novice. I like to party a bit, but I'm more of one of those "in bed by midnight" types. Out of these three hotels, can anyone tell me which one would probably be the quietest: Casa Mexicana, Suites Bahia, Suites Colonial

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like all 3 are right in the heart of it. Fear not, Once the parade is over downtown, Casa Mexicana wil be your best bet IMHO.

What are your travel dates? Most of this decision will depend on when during Carnival you will be there.

I've been to Carnival and I can tell you that it's a blast, but very loud. The parties and clubs go all night, especially the night of the big parade, so a hotel in town is not going to be your best option if you're looking to be in bed early. If those 3 are your only options, then I agree with the recommendation for Casa Mexicana. Request an upper floor room and maybe it won't be as loud.

If your LDS is running the trip, did they book everyone at the same hotel or are you booking your own hotel? If you're booking your own, I'd recommend something south of town. When I went in Feb 2004, I stayed at Villablanca and it was perfect--good location so we could walk to town but far enough away from the commotion so we could get a good night's sleep.

Good luck!

These are the only three hotels we have to choose from, and the cost difference is within $150 for the week between the three, so it really doesn't matter. Casa Mexicana appears to be the most modern, and considering that we stayed at the Meson San Miguel the last time (definitely no frills), I would imagine that any of the three would be a step up. However, I do have a hard time getting to sleep with lots of party-type noise close by. I suppose I can take my iPod or a pair of earplugs and depend on hubby to wake me up in the morning.

I can always exact revenge on late night partiers by being a cheerful (and loud) morning person, haha.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I think we will go with Casa Mexicana and request a 3rd floor room if possible.

All in all, I think that your choice is the best. The other two hotels are in the middle of town, where the Casa Mexicana has the water across the street and the rooms are set back from the street. Even the first floor rooms are above street level. Also, it's much newer than the others and more likely to be sound resistant. Bring the iPod, though. ;^)

Now my task is to convince hubby that we really can afford this trip, get a small inheritance from an unknown dead relative, or else be extra extra nice and maybe Santa Claus will stuff those reservations into my stocking.
