To save close to $200 we decided to fly into Cancun and travel to Cozumel by ferry (approach confirmed by most of the posters here -- thanks for the tips).

On our return, we want to dive the Cenotes. Our current thinking is to stay in PDC. What is a good no-frills hotel to stay in PDC?

Should we stay in Akumal or somewhere else (Dive Aventuras in Puerto Aventuras was highly recommended) as a base?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Craig

PDC has far more choices in lodgings, food, entertainment, shopping & the like, but remains largely peaceful & charming, if that is important.

In PDC, Hotel El Elefante, Hotel Zanzibar & Hotel Posada Muralla are all in town & good no frills values. No frills on the beach include Blue Parrot & Paradise Point Resort.

To dive the cenotes, the PDC dive shops include free rides to Akumal & return in the package. It's not that far, although staying in Puerto Aventuras will be closer.

Best regards.

Thanks....we well check them out.

Hey there,

Check out the Hotel El Faro. It sits on the beach and has a lighthouse! Stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it. Ask for a room on the ocean. Great prices and great location!

Otter-

as Doc said:

The Blue Parrot is a decent place and is affiliated with a LDS www.abyssdiveshop.com that runs trips to the cenotes. I've dove with them before (and will be doing so again next month:). They can arrange both your lodging and diving. Have fun!

When are you going to be there....we will be in PDC Feb 20th-22nd.

Craig

We will be in Playa Feb. 20th thru Mar. 1st.

Were doing the wine/ treasure hunt dive with The Abyss Dive shop on the 22nd (more info here). After that, we've got 2 days planned to do the Cenotes, Tortugas, Mama Vina and then it's over to Coz.

Otter,
My wife and I stayed at a little place right on the beach called Mimi Del Mar. Its small, quite, but nice. The only draw back is that you can't drive to it. You have to either have someone drop you at the corner of 5th and Calle 4 and walk down about 150 yards or you have to park about 3 blocks away and walk down to it. But ... with that aside, they are a nice little place, very affordable and centrally located to the rest of town while being on the beach. There's a scuba shop called Scuba Libre right on calle 4 right around the corner and they are a great little shop. Not a cattle drive.
Good luck
