One last question and then I think we're all set for this trip. . . .

We have finally picked the hotel, we're booked at the Villablanca (booked through www.travelnotes.cc , the prices were almost too good to be true).

My question is on DO's -- should we:
1. Go for a multi-day hotel-dive package with Papa Hogs? It's very close and fantastic prices. I get the impression that they may be very beginner-oriented though, and the loss of flexibility of a multi-day scares me.

2. Go for a multi-day hotel-dive with Blue Angel. Just a bit further. It's hard for me to get a handle on prices or level of service, but a lot of people here seem to recommend them.

3. Just do it a-la-carte and sign up when I get there. I'd most like to do this, even if I have to pay a little more. . . . But I'm scared that they will all be booked up even though this is the low season?

4. Do something else not mentioned above.

I'm hoping to get some answers to this today so that I can get some reservations set. . . .

Thanks everyone for all your help. Looking forward to seeing some of you there!!!

Caribe Blu (Blue Angel) is a bit closer to town than Villablanca, not farther, if that's what you mean. Not by much, though; we frequently walk there and snork back to Caribe Blu.

Christi sez that there is internet trouble on the island right now, but here are the phone numbers:

Hotel:
011 52 987 872 0188

Dive shop:
011 52 987 872 1631

Ask for Jeanie; she will take good care of you.

The hotel is a cut above Villablanca, IMO, and Blue Angel is very good. I've never been out with Papa Hog, so I can't give you a direct comparison.

Actually I meant that Villablanca is closer to Papa Hogs than it is to Blue Angel. We now have reservations with Villablanca.

I'm leaning towards Blue Angel even though it's further (and more expensive?) because I'm under the impression that Papa Hogs is geared towards beginners and I've heard that they cut the bottom times short.

I'm tempted to wait until I get there to set up anything -- but I'm scared that everything will be booked up if I wait. . . .

So -- should I go with Blue Angel even though it's a further walk? Should I go with Papa Hogs even though they're geared to beginners? Should I wait?

Maybe I should just shut up and book since I'm only risking some $200-300?

Well, I'm pretty sure that Blue Angel will pick you up at Villablanca, so the walk is not really an issue though its not far at all. BA quoted me $53 for a 2 tanker, but I don't know if that's a special rate for Caribe Blu guests or not (the dive op and hotel are under the same ownership).

See ya there!

Sold. Villablanca and Blue Angel.

Thanks for the help! I'll be the one walking around wrapped in yellow construction tape (I have no idea where to get orange surveyor's tape, but there's piles of yellow stuff here at the office. . . .).

My surveyor's tape is Day-Glo yellowish green (a very tiny bit more subtle than the orange or pink), and they'll have it at any hardware store. We'll find each other, I'm sure. If you go to Caribe Blu, just ask for Gordon; it's a small place and they all know me.

I'm already there in my mind......................................heavy sigh

My wife is sold on Villablanca. Works for me.

Christi is sold out thru June.

I'm considering a hotel-dive package with VB & Papa Hogs -- any thoughts on that? The lack of flexibility kind of bothers me a bit, but maybe that's not such a big deal. The price is sure OK.

I would DEFINITELY be up for shore dives, perhaps a twilight or night dive?

I actually still have some space here and there in June, but nothing at all left for May. I think you'll be happy with the Papa Hogs/VB package OR the Villa Blanca blue Angel package.

Have a great time!

I am fairly certian that rate is because you are also staying there Gordon.
