I'm new here and I'm just wondering: are most of the folks on this board divers or are they just people who like to talk about diving?

I know one guy who paid his annual fees, got snorkelled up every year, and then did just one dive in about 10 metres of water. But he always got fantastic value for money because he spent the entire year regaling his friends in the local pub with tales of derring-do from his underwater adventures. Of course, they thought he was in the water every day of the week!

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that. Everyone should dive as and how they want, once they stay safe. And I suppose we all want to talk about our activities in the water, after all that's what has brought us together on this site in the first place.

I'm in no way trying to be offensive, but as I look at all the posts on this site and the hot air generated, I just found myself wondering if you people are those that do or those that just talk about doing.

I await your replies with interest.

I suppose we have all kinds on the board. We have people interested in diving who haven't started yet, beginners who want to learn, beginners who think they already know it all, we, diveshop owners, instructors from all agencies, technical divers, cave divers, DIR divers, anti-DIR divers. Our lineup also includes some real heavy hitters (as in the guys who wrote the book).

As for me I like to both talk diving and dive. I talk it during the week and do it on the weekend. I am more experienced than some and way less experienced than others. I answer questions and ask them. Somethimes I do the right one at the right time.

Great response Mike!!

That says it all...

Irishdiver...... Mike had a pretty good response that I have to agree with -pretty much nails down this board. For you to come out in one of your first posts on this board and say that " a lot of hot air is being generated" you might understand that some will take that as a trolling statement and you'll get an appropriate response....

As a active diver, and part time contributer, I have found this board to be far more useful than ANY other scuba forum. You can find advice and instruction from the very basics of scuba, to going a thousand feet in a cave. And this IS the best board I have found for having any questions answered without being flamed, beaten down or told that your an idiot.....

We have some fun, we have resident trolls, and we have a few idiots (there is one in every crowd), but stick around...... I think you'll change your view about this.....

There are several people on this board who are out to cause trouble, but the vast majority are pretty serious and lack a decent sense of humor.

Pretty much all in a nutshell from Mike. Lots of people...lots of opinions...lots of ranges of diving certs. Don't be frieghtened by Jep....he's harmless once you figure out how to read his posts.

well allI can say is I logged last year 126 dives most are during the summer months, working as dive master on board charters
hear in North carolina . I really love wrecks dives they the most fun !!!!!!!!!!!

Is the "English" to which you're referring as being the key to understanding your posts the kind of "English" you put on a billiard ball (or ping pong ball), or is it the English language?
